WHAT IS AN INSURANCE CLAIM REVIEW
AND WHY DO I NEED ONE?
Once you have your insurance claim filed and adjusted, it is crucially important to have a contractor review the insurer's scope/estimate. Yes, show it to them, give them a copy. The purpose of this initial report is to provide: 1) the insurers first offer of settlement 2) the insurers support documentation [line item detail of items and cost] for that estimate/settlement offer 3) serves as your "contractors prescription of work". This report gives the contractor the detailed list of what the insurer has authorized and the pricing they are suggesting to pay.
In the contractors review of the scope report, the contractor will be looking for errors and omissions in the insurer's report. Things like incorrect products (cheaper), incorrect measurements (cheaper), incorrect counts (cheaper), incorrect work function (cheaper), and items that need to be repaired or replaced that are missing completely (cheaper).
When the insurer's scope/estimate contains these errors and omissions, it might look good on the surface to the layperson. Deeper understanding will show it provides for a low grade restoration as opposed to a full and complete restoration and of the quality you should have. These things save the insurer money, but at the expense of the quality and completeness of your restoration.
An experienced insurance contractor can work to fix these errors and omissions so you get a full restoration and a higher performance roof. This, at no cost to you.
